One company’s PR disaster can be another company’s chance to shine.

Air Asia has been one of these in recent days. Last week Garuda Indonesia sparked controversy by banning photography and videos on its flights. While it quickly backed down, the damage was done.

The Tony Fernandes-run carrier decided to run a competition. Upload a ‘happy photo’ of yourself on Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag #BahagiaBersamaAirAsia (HappyWithAirAsia) and you could win Air Asia tickets.

Light-hearted fun is something we see too little of in the corporate world.

The markets may have little light-heartedness but they seem fairly happy today. The ASX Small Ords is up 0.23 per cent to 2,951 and ASX 200 is up 0.27 per cent to 6,709.

Speaking of happy people, ANZ-Roy Morgan consumer confidence rose 0.3 per cent last week. ANZ head of Australian economics David Plank noted it would “provide comfort to the RBA that the slide in consumer inflation expectations has been arrested”.

Going up

Amplia Therapeutics’ (ASX: ATX) anti-cancer drug recorded positive pre-clinical results and the stock is up 40 per cent today.

Base metals explorer Auris Minerals (ASX: AUR) gained 20 per cent after earning in 70 per cent of its joint venture project.
