ASX Lunch Small Cap Wrap: Who’s hoping for a better year next year?

It’s that time of year we say “Happy New Year” but you’d be forgiven for being sceptical about hopes for a positive 2022 after 2021.

But some things will change after midnight tonight or early in the new year. Among them:

  • The world’s largest free trade agreement will be effective – the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), which Australia has signed with China, Japan, South Korea and the 10 ASEAN nations.
  • A number of Australian states will further restrict the utilisation of single-use plastics
  • Children between 5 and 11 will be eligible to be vaccinated – but they’ll only be eligible for Pfizer.

But before then, New Year’s Eve celebrations will be going ahead across the country, including in COVID-riddled Sydney. If you want to go out then it might be easier to get a spot at some of the most popular vantage points.

 

To markets…

The ASX snapped a streak of six straight positive trading days, retreating by 0.56% this morning. But the bourse is set to finish this year over 13% higher than what it began, albeit off all time highs reached in August this year.

Neometals (ASX:NMT) climbed after a joint venture company it has a 50% stake in – Primobius – signed a deal to commercialise its battery recycling technology into North America with Canadian steelmaker Stelco Holdings.

Advanced agritech company Roto-Gro International (ASX:RGI) climbed off the back of an update on its partnership with Verity Greens.

The company says Verity Greens is on the cusp of increasing its prospective purchase order of its indoor vertical farming systems and as a consequence, their technology licence agreement is being extended for another 12 months.
