• Ice-T is opening a cannabis dispensary in New Jersey this year
  • Snoop Dogg’s venture capital firm led a seed funding round for TSUMo Snacks
  • Incannex ramps up development and manufacturing of IHL-216A drug

New Jersey has given Ice-T the green light to open a cannabis dispensary in Jersey City.

The rapper turned actor turned cannabis connessieur has teamed up with The Medicine Woman for the new venture, with plans to open a 460sqm dispensary in the coming months.

But he’s not the only rapper expanding their cannabis business.

Snoop Dogg’s cannabis venture capital firm Casa Verde has led a $4m seed funding round to back TSUMo Snacks – a cannabis brand offering tortilla chips and cheese puffs infused with a 10-milligram dose of THC per bag.

“With all edibles, you have to stay within the 10% variance in terms of the dosing — and when you’re talking about chips, which are irregular, it’s not the easiest thing in the world to do,” TSUMo co-founder and CEO Caroline Yeh said.

The company currently has five flavors of snacks in personal-sized bags and plans to come out with larger, multi-serve bags, and will use the new funding to develop new flavours and snacks.

Here are the ones with notable news:

INCANNEX (ASX:IHL)

The company has engaged Curia Global (Curia) – a leading contract research, development, and manufacturing organisation – to further develop and manufacture its proprietary inhaled drug product IHL-216A for the treatment of concussion and traumatic brain injury (TBI).

The company is engaged to scale-up the fill-finish manufacture of IHL-216A in compliance with Current Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP).

The first CGMP batch manufactured at Curia will be used in a Phase 1 clinical trial, which will start once feedback on the proposed IHL-216A development plan is received from FDA in a pre-IND meeting that Incannex is aiming to set with FDA in Q3 2022.

Plus, Incannex has also finalised the acquisition of leading cannabinoid biotech company APIRx Pharmaceuticals (APIRx).

Following the deal, 22 additional clinical and preclinical research and development projects have been transferred to Incannex, which it says represents aggregate addressable markets of ~US$400 billion annually.

MGC PHARMA (ASX:MXC)

The company has taken a strategic 40% stake in  Zam Software, the UK-incorporated owner of proprietary Artificial Intelligence (AI) data gathering platform, ZAM.

MGC Pharma will issue £700,000 of its own shares to acquire a 40% stake, with the 60% remaining stake still held by software development company Caba Tech, co-developers of the ZAM app.

MGC Pharma believes the ZAM app is a potential game changer in the industry as it enables the possibility of personalising medication – not just with cannabis-based drugs, but with all pharmaceutical drugs.

The app allows patients to log their medical history, providing the user’s doctor with a comprehensive set of data on treatment and medical history.

It also enables qualified medical practitioners to prescribe alternative medication following an online consultation through telehealth services such as MGC Pharma’s MCC platform based in Australia.

MEDLAB CLINICAL (ASX:MDC)

Medlab Clinical’s protection of its NRGBiotic has been given a win with formal acceptance of a depression patent in Europe, paving the way for it to be granted within the next two to three months.

Once fully granted, the company expects protection in up to 36 jurisdictions including the UK, Europe and Scandinavia.
