Australia’s first cannabis clinic is under fire with doctors unimpressed with the fact that it is set up solely to provide easier access to a single drug.

According to Australian Doctor, MMJ-backed Cannabis Access Clinics will only accept patients whose conditions are likely to be accepted by the Therapeutic Goods Administration’s (TGA) Special Access Scheme for medical cannabis, and not deal with other aspects of patient health.

Stockhead understands some doctors are skeptical over the branding as ‘cannabis access’ rather than a general health clinic or a pain clinic that can prescribe medical cannabis alongside a range of medications.

Cannabis Access Clinics, which is backed by MMJ Phytotech (ASX:MMJ) to the tune of $1 million for a nationwide expansion, charges $300 for an initial consult.

It has been treating people since April this year.

Follow-ups cost between $80-120.

Stockhead understands the clinic’s CEO has left the company, although requests for comments were not returned.
