Special Report: Australian owned and operated health and wellness company Meluka Australia has secured a major win in the US with the addition of its honey products to the product catalogue of US giant Whole Foods.

Eve Investments’ (ASX:EVE) Meluka Australia has furthered its expansion into the US, seeing two of its honey products added to the product catalogue of Whole Foods Market in Northern California.

This allows approximately 40 Whole Foods stores to stock Meluka’s Organic Raw Native Honey and Organic Raw Native Honey infused with Tea Tree, with products anticipated to be on shelves by April 2021.

A sweet deal

The Northern California market has a population of approximately 15 million people and includes the cities of San Francisco, San Jose (Silicon Valley) and Oakland. Distribution giant United Natural Foods will distribute the product to Whole Foods on behalf of Meluka.

Managing director Bill Fry said the agreement was a cornerstone in Meluka’s ongoing plans for expansion.

“The acceptance of Meluka’s products into Whole Foods Market is an important milestone for our organisation,” said Fry.

“Whole Foods Market is one of the most recognised wholefoods retailers in the US with an extensive retail network. We look forward to commencing sales through Whole Foods Market and continuing to build our presence in the US.”

Success in 2020

Following a successful soft launch in the US last year, Meluka Australia quickly became one of the top 20 honey sellers on Amazon US. The company has continued utilising Amazon to grow the awareness of its products in the region and this new agreement with Whole Foods, a wholly owned subsidiary of Amazon, furthers that growth.

Through its success on Amazon, Meluka hopes to continue expansion into bricks and mortar stores with further plans for international expansion on the cards.

The US isn’t the only international market Meluka has its sights on. A sales update at the end of 2020 saw the company report orders of its native honey products were selling out prior to arrival in China.

Meluka signed a partnership with Chinese distributor Yandi Biotech, a leading Chinese green life and health care distribution company with over one million members in its distribution network, at the end of 2019.

Meluka has plans to continue its global expansion with launches in the UK, Germany, Singapore and Japan in 2021.
