HyTerra spuds natural hydrogen well over Easter

- HYT has successfully spudded the Sue Duroche 3 well at its Kansas project
- The well is expected to reach total depth within a week
- Acquisition of seismic data is also underway
Special Report: HyTerra is drilling ahead after spudding the Sue Duroche 3 Well over the Easter long weekend at its Nemaha hydrogen and helium project in Kansas, USA.
This marks the first step for the company in executing a comprehensive 12-month exploration work program designed to unlock the potential of natural (white) hydrogen in Kansas.
White hydrogen is generated naturally by the earth, has much lower production costs and carbon emissions than man-made hydrogen and has potential as a low-carbon feedstock or fuel.
Over the Easter period, the surface section was successfully drilled to 715ft with casing run and cemented.
Gas samples are being collected for independent laboratory analysis to confirm the presence and concentrations of hydrogen and/or helium in the subsurface formations.
HyTerra (ASX:HYT) said the well was now drilling below 2000ft and was on time and budget. At the current rate of drilling, total depth should be achieved within a week.
Then, an extensive wireline program will be completed by SLB (Schlumberger) to evaluate the quality of the reservoir rocks.
Acquiring seismic data
Meanwhile, the company continues infill leasing for contiguous acreage, having increased its lease acreage from 9,607 to more than 72,500 acres – securing a competitive foothold in the USA’s hydrogen heartland.
In addition, surveying for the seismic program is underway, with Paragon Geophysical mobilising to location late last week.
The acquisition of seismic data is expected to continue for several weeks, with the goal of the survey to support prospect analysis and drilling locations in the second half of 2025.
