Illuvium, one of the most promising and hyped Web3 gaming projects in existence, has announced the latest title in its ecosystem of “interoperable blockchain games” – Illuvium: Beyond, which is based around its upcoming Illuvitars NFT collection.

The launch of this aspect in the project’s ever-expanding gaming universe is set to go live on March 7.

What are Illuvitars, you ask? Essentially, they’re a customisable collection of more than 150 NFTs based on Illuvium’s in-game characters – Illuvials. Each Illuvitar consists of a portrait and an infinite-possible combo of accessories, backgrounds and expressions that provide the NFTs with differences in rarity and, hence, value.

More than just PFP (profile pic) avatars, though, they’re designed to unlock various in-game utility, as well as including granting access to private beta game launches, exclusive Illuvium merch and events.

What is Illuvium: Beyond?

Illuvium: Beyond is essentially a collection-building concept that also acts as a game (actually games, see below), within the wider Illuvium ecosystem.

By achieving rare collections of Illuvitar NFTs, player-collectors will be able to boost their rank on a leaderboard, thereby unlocking additional utility within the Illuvium universe (which currently consists of three main games – Illuvium: Overworld, Arena and Zero).

Illuvitar NFT collectors are awarded points for completing pages within an Illuvitars “Album”. Extra certain in-game rewards are given to those who finish collections.

Additionally, the Illuvitars NFTs will be able to be utilised in an upcoming interactive and competitive card game that the project’s founders are also developing.

While the Illuvitar NFTs themselves will no doubt garner fluctuating value from an NFT PFP trading perspective, like any other NFT collection, this is definitely a project for the Illuvium faithful who wish to immerse themselves further into the wider Illuvium gaming experience on offer.

Unique, hand-drawn pieces of art

Illuvium is collaborating with the GameFi-focused Layer 2 blockchain ImmutableX (upon which Illuvium operates), along with Binance and Chainlink in order to bring the Illuvitars vision to life.

According to information passed to Stockhead from Illuvium co-founder Kieran Warwick, “ImmutableX guarantees true digital ownership and gas-free transactions, Binance offers effortless purchasing, and Chainlink’s price feeds determine the sILV2/ ETH price”.

sILV2 is a “synthetic ILV token” that’s used in-game within the Illuvium ecosystem. It’s pegged 1:1 to ILV for in-game spending power.

As for the artistic mastermind behind Illuvitars, it’s the project’s Head of Concept Art – Rogier Van De Beek, who, in creating the collection, led a team of talented artists with experience at companies like Blizzard, Magic the Gathering, and Sega.

“We started Illuvitars as a simple PFP project, but it soon became much more,” said Van De Beek. “Our team spent over a year hand-drawing unique pieces for Illuvitars, and the result is an immersive experience that will exceed expectations.”

“We recognised the untapped potential in crypto’s distinct market segments and the vibrant communities built around NFT collections,” added Warwick. “However, they were disconnected from the gaming world. So, we took action and created Illuvitars, bridging the gap and bringing about a new era of opportunity for NFT collectors.”
