The Unicorns Podcast connects you to some of the best and brightest founders, CEOs, executives, business owners, innovators, entrepreneurs and inspiring leaders who make things happen and inspire others.

Host Justin Kelly, former broadcast journalist and PR veteran, chats with leaders from across Australia and internationally on business strategy; what it takes to build a successful company; how to overcome challenges, and advice for those on a similar journey.

In this episode, Justin talks with Troy Douglas, co-founder and joint CEO of beverage company Nexba.

The Nexba story began in 2010 when a young Aussie, Drew, lay on the Mexican Nexpa beach, sipping a tasty homemade iced tea. As he thought about just how damn good it tasted, it also dawned on him just how much sugar was in that tiny glass. He wondered if you could make a natural drink that tasted just as delicious but without the sugar overload, the best of both worlds.

Armed with a tan and a plan, Drew turned to his brother-in-law Troy to turn this wacky idea into a reality. The guys got to work, setting out to do things not just differently, but better. Within a year the pair had started selling their first drinks from the back of a van on Bondi Beach. Six years later they had their globally patented natural sweetener blend perfected, tasting every bit as good as sugar itself, but without anything artificial. A first of its kind.

And the guys are only just getting started. In 2023 Nexba is proud to be Australia’s favourite naturally sugar-free brand. It’s making waves in the UK and Korea, with further global expansion on the horizon! Nexba has just signed up Australian cricket captain Pat Cummins as brand ambassador and is on the hunt for fresh capital to turbocharge its ambitious growth plans.
