The Unicorns Podcast connects you to some of the best and brightest founders, CEOs, executives, business owners, VCs and inspiring leaders who make things happen and inspire others.

Hosted by media and PR veteran Justin Kelly, we chat to leaders on the front line on how to get started, what it takes to build a successful business, how to overcome challenges, and advice for those on a similar journey.

In this episode, Justin speaks with award-winning entrepreneur Grace Wong, co-founder of Australia’s leading dining payment and rewards app, Liven.

Wong, a former lawyer, founded Liven in 2014 and has since been named one of five female entrepreneurs leading blockchain by the Australian Financial Review and won Sir Richard Branson’s 2019 Extreme Tech Challenge.

Liven is Australia’s biggest loyalty-based payment network creating the world’s first behavioural gamification layer for the offline world. It offers restaurant discovery, one-tap payment and universal crypto rewards.

Users browse curated venues in their city, pay instantly with a single tap and earn LVN; the universal digital dining currency to spend the next time they dine anywhere in the Liven network.

With over 1000 partner venues throughout Australia and more than 700,000 people transacting through the app, Liven is creating a tokenised economy supporting local businesses and national brands. It has partnered with brands like Gelato Messina, 8bit, GongCha, Coco Tea, Roll’d, NeNe Chicken, Movida, and Maha.

In the midst of COVID-19, the company launched an Australian-first initiative, #SaveYourFaves, which allowed Australians to support their favourite restaurants through purchasing a Liven Care Package within the app in exchange for credit to use later (at no risk).

In this episode, Wong talks about the impact the pandemic is having on the hospitality industry, how she started the business and raised money in secret, how she built Australia’s fastest growing lifestyle payment app, and what’s next for the company in a post-COVID world.
