The Unicorns Podcast connects you to some of the best and brightest founders, CEOs, executives, business owners, VCs and inspiring leaders who make things happen and inspire others.

Hosted by former broadcast journalist and PR veteran, Justin Kelly, we chat to leaders on the front line on how to get started, what it takes to build a successful business, how to overcome challenges, and advice for those on a similar journey.

In this episode, Justin speaks with Lance Goodman, co-founder and CEO of Compare Club, Australia’s fastest growing online comparison and personal finance advice marketplace.

Compare Club helps customers choose between providers of home loans, health insurance, life insurance, car insurance, personal loans and energy. The aim is to ease the pain points of everyday life – paying the mortgage or rent and basic household bills. Since the beginning of 2020, the company has seen 2.7 million Australians enquire about services including health insurance and home loans. In fact, home loans enquiries are the company’s fastest growing vertical, with enquiries in Q1 and Q2 2021 this year already surpassing last year’s overall total enquiries.

Compare Club is the result of a merger between lead generation company Alternative Media and health insurance brokerage Choosewell. Both companies were founded after years at Medibank Private and Bupa respectively and felt the approach by these platforms (and most others) was far too simplified. Products were recommended based on just age, gender and status and, of course, were restricted to a very narrow range.

In this episode, Lance talks through how Compare Club works, the customers who use the platform, the services offered, how he plans to grow the business and the potential for a near term public listing.
