Lefroy sampling puts spotlight on gold potential of Hang Glider Hill

Special Report: Surface sampling has highlighted the prospectivity of Lefroy’s Hang Glider Hill exploration hub with the identification of multiple new gold anomalies.

The 3,120-sample auger geochemical program over the large contiguous tenement package straddling the regional Mt Monger Fault at Eastern Lefroy covered 17km of strike extending between the Hang Glider Hill prospect and Lucky Strike gold deposit.

Lefroy Exploration (ASX:LEX) noted that five new strong surface gold anomalies were outlined near Hang Glider Hill.

Managing director Wade Johnson says the encouraging results validate and reinforce the prospectivity of the Hang Glider Hill exploration hub.

Three of the anomalies that are 2.5km south of Hang Glider Hill have a north-south trend and highlight the potential for a new mineralising structural setting. They are now high priority targets for drill testing.

A further two targets are located 2km to 3km southeast along strike of Hang Glider Hill and adjacent to the Hang Glider Hill fault, providing further support to this developing trend.

“The northerly trending anomalies add a new geological flavour that supports an alternate structural model to enhance the bedrock gold potential of the greater area,” Johnson added.

“Our priority will be to investigate the more prominent gold anomalies by aircore drilling with the aim of defining new bedrock targets for RC drilling.”

Big gold potential

Hang Glider Hill was uncovered in the northwest region of the Lefroy gold project in 2018 after the discovery of multiple gold nuggets over a 2km trend.

The largest nugget found weighed 102.3 grams.

Subsequent early stage diamond drilling struck high-grade gold with highlights including 1.05m at 7.42 grams per tonne (g/t) gold within a broader 6.8m intersection at 1.86g/t gold from a depth of 53.7m.

The recent auger geochemical program was designed as a first pass exploration technique to screen a contiguous group of tenements covering 71sqkm that straddle the interpreted position of the regional scale Mt Monger fault.

Lefroy believes the area around the Mt Monger fault is prospective for large gold deposits.

Next steps

The company considers the new surface anomalies to be high priority targets for drill testing and is planning the next stage of exploration.

It has submitted a program of works with the Western Australian Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) for early stage aircore drilling at each of these target areas.

This early stage program is expected to begin in November 2020 and will prioritise targets for reverse circulation drilling.
