Gaming tournament platform Esports Mogul (ASX:ESH) turned some heads on the deal-making front this morning.

A tie-up with the NASDAQ-listed Super League Gaming, Inc (SLGG) is what moved the needle, as Esports Mogul shares jumped almost 40 per cent.

Esports Mogul CEO Michael Rubinelli said SLGG brings a “highly complementary technology” to ESH’s efforts to scale its tournament gaming platform.

Shares in Esports Mogul climbed to a multi-year high this morning, before the stock went into a trading halt pending a further announcement.

Esports tech ramps up

Esports Mogul’s main revenue channel is through brand partnerships and sponsored events for various online tournaments.

The company said it aims to leverage its partnership with Super League Gaming to facilitate “end-to-end solutions for brands and rights holders, through esports tournament activations and streaming”.

ESH said Super League has developed a number of technology initiatives to improve the tournament experience, with a target market of gamers across all skill levels.

Among them is its live-streaming capability, SuperLeagueTV, which can be run centrally from its in-house production studio.

Esports Mogul said SLGG had the capability to conduct multiple live-streams simultaneously, which can then be made available to various platforms such as Twitch and YouTube in real time.

SLGG also has an application pending with the US Patent Office for its “camera character”, where viewers can view gaming action as a virtual player.

The player’s movements are governed by “a form of artificial intelligence designed to follow the most interesting and exciting action of each game”, Esports Mogul said.

ESH said the integration of advanced spectator functionality will be a good complement to existing areas of strength, which include customised matchmaking for various tournament games.

The company plans to monetise that functionality by demonstrating improved player engagement and content creation opportunities for brands.

Super League Gaming president Ann Hand said the deal gives the company an opportunity to expand globally.

“Their (Esports Mogul’s) reach into Asia and Latin America is also attractive to us, so we’re excited to see where this partnership will go,” Hand said.
