The world’s leading crypto gaming company and the hottest NFT project in history have stirred excitement on social media with word that they’ve been collaborating for months on a secret project.

The Bored Ape Yacht Club isn’t yet saying just what they’re up to with formerly ASX-listed Animoca Brands beyond some vague hints on social media, including a new website,, but tie-up was enough to set Twitter alight.

“Yuga x Animoca is pure gravy,” tweeted @fndati0n.eth, referring to BAYC creator Yuga Labs.

“This has been building over the last seven months,” the Ape club tweeted. “Animoca Brands will launch the first phase, and there’s more to come.”

The somthingisbrewing link leads to a website that asks users to get KYC (know-your-customer) verified – always a contentious move in crypto, where many users guard their privacy rigorously.

“We don’t like KYCs either, but we think you’re going to want to be a part of this,” BAYC added.

Most people will have heard of the BAYC, but for those in need of a refresher, it’s a collection of 10,000 NFTs that serve as membership passes to an exclusive social club. Mark Cuban, Stephen Curry, Jimmy Fallon, DJ Khaled, Post Malone, Timbaland, Dez Bryant, Logan Paul, Serena Williams, Paris Hilton, Justin Bieber and Gwyneth Paltrow are members. Prices currently start at 73.5 Ethereum (US$187,250).

‘Incredibly excited for what is coming’

So what has the leading NFT collection been working on for seven months with the leading NFT investment company?

BAYC tweeted that it wasn’t the collaboration on a play-to-earn game announced in December that’s expected to be released in Q2 of 2022.

Animoca Brands co-founder and executive chairman Yat Siu tweeted that he was “incredibly excited for what is coming” with the tie-up, but didn’t disclose too much more.

Both Siu and BAYC did retweet one person who wrote that the KYC required by the SomethingisBrewing website didn’t require a wallet with an Ape in it.

“Anybody can register, they don’t require linking discord/twitter etc. Make a new wallet, submit your info, and you’re effectively doxing yourself as having an ethereum wallet, but not any assets,” wrote 0xQuit.

That’s a huge clue – we’re guessing that BAYC and Animoca are asking for Ethereum addresses for an airdrop? Given that such addresses are free and simple to create – and given that these are two of the leading brands in all of crypto – registering seems like a no-brainer.
