Red Mountain Mining is all set to get the rigs turning at its Mt Mansbridge rare earths project in WA’s Kimberley by the middle of next month.

Red Mountain (ASX:RMX) has appointed a drilling contractor, with a reverse circulation rig expected on site next month on the back of a targeting program that includes the identification of two major rare earths elements anomalies via an expansive 952 sample soil sampling program.

The first soil anomaly is a heavy rare earths anomaly on the western end of the Mt Mansbridge inlier, the second a 1km-long light rare earths element anomaly that was partially defined by previous soil sampling programs.

Along with these targets a site visit and analysis of historic radiometric data is being used to focus a current mapping, rock-chipping and drill targeting program.

Outside of Killi-Killi work is also ongoing to firm up the cobalt prospectivity of the Déjà Vu prospect where Rio Tinto predecessor CRA struck trace amounts of nickel and copper and high grade cobalt intersections in drilling for diamonds from 1991-1993 and the nickel-copper-cobalt-PGE potential of the Cow Creek prospect.

A desktop review has been completed over the battery metals targets by consultant Jon Hronsky, a former Western Mining geologist famed for his work discovering the Nebo-Babel nickel-copper sulphide deposits which are set to be developed by OZ Minerals.

Magnetic data has shown Cow Creek includes several regionally distinctive magnetic features interpreted as a mafic-ultramafic intrusive complex.

That is the style of mineralisation found at Panoramic Resources’ nearby Savannah Nickel Mine.

Both Déjà Vu and Cow Creek will be drilled in the upcoming program.

Target mapping is also taking place on site at the Vader anomaly, Kylo and Mansbridge xenotime-dysprosium occurrences, and the T3, T11, T30, T15, T16 and T17 radiometric anomalies.

Heritage surveys with the traditional owners the Tjurubalan people are also due to take place next month before the start of drilling at Mt Mansbridge.

Maitland South results pending

Drill assays are pending from the Maitland South prospect in the Murchison, a 500m long shear zone with a number of historical workings and shallow RC results including 7m at 3.3g/t and 13m at 2.53g/t of gold.

Recent drilling by Red Mountain intersected the Maitland South Shear Zone between 266.77m and 281.42m at a width of over 14m, with disseminations of pyrite throughout the interval.

Assays are due in September.

Assays have been received from the nearby IP chargeability target at the Jacia gold and base metals target, including a best result of 1m from 185m at 0.07ppm gold, 1,495ppm lead and 368ppm zinc.

“The presence of such minerals and anomalous gold and base metals values within veining does provide encouragement that the Jacia Trend has the potential to host a base metal deposit,” the company said.
