Special report: Cobalt explorer Meteoric Resources is about to start a high-tech airborne survey of its three biggest cobalt projects in Ontario, Canada.

The explorer (ASX:MEI) has signed up Geotech Limited, an Ontario-based surveyor that specialises in airborne geophysical mapping, data processing and data interpretation.

Geotech will survey Meteoric’s Iron Mask, Mulligan East and Beauchamp cobalt projects using Geotech’s innovative “Versatile Time Domain Electro-Magnetic (VTEM)” technology.

The sites are located within the Ontario Cobalt Belt which contains the historic mining town of Cobalt.

The patented survey technology — which Geotech has been developing since 2002 — can penetrate through rock to depths of 300 metres to identify moderate to excellent conductor materials.

Data is recorded every 0.1 second to create a 3D map with unparalleled resolution.

It’s expected the process will reveal well-defined, high-resolution targets, allowing for advanced exploration activities at the three locations.

Drilling well underway

The company recently started its maiden drill program at the Mulligan Project.

“With drilling at Mulligan well underway it is crucial we fast-track our summer exploration work by commencing airborne surveys across our three largest cobalt projects in Ontario,” said Meteoric Resources managing director Dr Andrew Tunks.

“We have found that the cost of flying airborne VTEM surveys in Canada is extremely cheap when compared to other locations globally.

“Given Iron Mask, Mulligan East and Beauchamp cover over 60 sq km of ground prospective for cobalt mineralisation, flying the chopper survey as a first pass is a very cost-effective method for generating targets.”

“In quick time the airborne survey will provide us detailed results on the potential for mineralisation in the sub-surface and allow our field crews to continue to complete our target generation for advanced exploration activities, including drilling at our other projects.”
