Special Report: Kingwest Resources has hit significant gold intersections at its Menzies gold project 130km north of Kalgoorlie in WA that have exceeded company expectations.

The gold intersections were returned from Kingwest Resources’ (ASX:KWR) shallow drilling at the Menzies project that was designed to increase the confidence and size of its resource.

Top hits included 4m at 11.04 grams per tonne (g/t) from 47m and 3m at 12.28g/t from 79m from 42 drill holes to date for a total drilling depth of 4,004m at the Menzies’ First Hit and Lady Shenton Systems.

High-grade deposits hosted at Menzies project

At the company’s Selkirk deposit, drilling returned hits of 4m at 3.39g/t, including 1m at 11.41 g/t, from 95m just outside the Menzies resource, which demonstrates its potential to grow as more drilling is completed.

Contained within the Menzies project area is a series of structurally controlled, high-grade gold deposits that display extensive exploration potential for high-grade extensions, Kingwest said.

Menzies sits within Western Australia’s Menzies Shear Zone that extends south to Kalgoorlie and north to Menzies in the Eastern Goldfields region.

Kingwest is aiming to unlock the value of the Menzies gold field and utilise local infrastructure to quickly become a gold producer.

Historic gold producer

There are five historic underground gold mines in the Menzies project area. The last ceased production in the 1940s, and open pit mining carried on until the 1990s.

Historical gold production of 643,000oz at 22.5g/t from underground operations is recorded at Menzies between 1895 and 1943, and 145,000oz at 2.6g/t was mined from the open cut between 1995 and 1999.

Kingwest Resources is undertaking resource definition drilling at its Menzies project comprising 100 drill holes for 10,000m to upgrade the resource.

Menzies has an already defined resource of 320,000oz at 2.1g/t, mostly in the inferred category, and the project covers a strike length in excess of 15km.

Further resource drilling comprising 6,000m across 58 drill holes as well as 3,000m of exploration drilling is planned for Menzies for the rest of 2020, spread across the First Hit, Lady Shenton, Lady Harriet and Yunndaga Systems.

The Menzies project sits along the Goldfields Highway, and within trucking distance of several gold processing plants.
