• High >96% uranium extraction achieved at Saraya project
  • Diamond core samples tested show 14% head grade increase
  • Exploration and testing to determine an upcoming resource upgrade

Special Report: With a resource upgrade incoming, metallurgical testwork at Haranga Resources’ Saraya flagship uranium deposit in Senegal has confirmed >96% U3O8 extraction using sulfuric acid.

Saraya has a current resource of 12.4Mt @ 587 parts per million (ppm) eU3O8 for a contained 16.1Mlbs and Haranga Resources (ASX:HAR) has recently completed an RC drill program across target areas ahead of a resource upgrade to the project.

Metallurgy results

22 diamond core samples that closely represent the current resource estimate grade of 587ppm U3O8 were selected for metallurgical testwork and the subset had a calculated head grade of 672ppm U3O8 – 14% higher than the samples used chosen for the initial resource estimate.

Alkaline leach testing achieved an 84% final uranium extraction, yet acid leach tests improved upon that by 12%.

They were conducted at high temperatures using aggressive sulphuric acid additions and showed an impressive >96% uranium oxide extraction, which the company says is similar and even exceeds other uranium operations.

HAR MD Peter Batten says the first results from the ore characterisation testwork are positive, as expected, and the acid leach recoveries are pleasingly high, but it was an aggressive test to assess what the limits are.

“The next work will pare back the aggressive parameters and give a clearer indication of what could be expected in processing of the Saraya mineralised episyenite,” Batten says.

“It was interesting to note that the diamond core samples were selected to represent the mineral resource estimate grade of 587 ppm U3O8 and realised a head grade 14% higher.

“The alkaline leach results are also good and gives Haranga two options to consider, if and when we enter feasibility studies for the Saraya uranium deposit.”

What’s next?

Fieldwork is continuing in Senegal following the completion of RC drilling last month and cores have been shipped ALS Laboratories Canada for assaying.

Termite mound sampling is also progressing at both regional and infill targets, while auger drilling is testing anomalous results reported for the Diobi, Mandankoly and Sanela target areas before moving to Saraya South, Saraya East and Diobi East.
