Special Report: Galan Lithium has been awarded a highly prospective tenement less than 30km south of the giant Greenbushes lithium mine in Western Australia.

 

The ~43km2 E70/4629 tenement takes the area covered by the company’s 100%-owned Greenbushes South tenement package up to 315km2.

E70/4629 is less than 30km south of Talison Lithium’s longstanding and prolific Greenbushes mine and only 260km south of Perth.

On the eastern side of the tenement is historical tin workings in the Smithfield pegmatite area which are expected to provide valuable geological insights and indicators to potential spodumene mineralisation patterns within the region.

Given alluvial tins were a precursor to the Greenbushes mine, those historical workings could prove invaluable for assessing the potential of any lithium-bearing pegmatites found on the newly acquired tenement.

A re-interpretation of historical geophysical data acquired by Galan Lithium’s (ASX:GLN) suggests the key Donnybrook-Bridgetown Shear Zone, which hosts known lithium-bearing pegmatites at the Greenbushes mine, extends into E70/4629.

“The grant of this key exploration licence is an important pillar of Galan’s exploration and evaluation activities at Greenbushes South,” GLN managing director Juan Pablo Vargas de la Vega said.

“The tenure is highly prospective and its geological setting gives us the confidence to commence a maiden field campaign at the earliest opportunity.”

Upcoming activity

GLN plans to start maiden exploration over this tenement in 2H 2024. This work will include hand sampling and ground geophysics.

The exploration licence for E70/4629 has been granted for five years, ending in February 2029.

High-resolution radiometric and magnetic geophysical data from airborne geophysical campaign flown in March 2022 provides initial exploration targets for the company.
