COVID-19’s impact on the global economy has prompted governments to roll out trillions of dollars of stimulus to ignite things like infrastructure spend.
European governments, meanwhile, are working to secure their EV supply chains, injecting billions of dollars into the economy, after the pandemic shone a light on just how fragile they can be.
Add to that the fact that mines in heavily COVID impacted regions like Chile and Panama have been forced to close temporarily, disrupting supply, and you have the perfect storm for copper prices to start heading north.
Since mid-March the price has surged 40 per cent and recovered all of its 2020 losses, now trading above where it was at the start of the year.
Speaking with industry experts, we hear about the catalysts for rising copper prices, the narrowing supply/growing demand expectations and what’s in store for the red metal post-COVID-19.
We also hear from a handful of listed juniors making waves in the sector, each giving an overview of their activities, discoveries and future plans.

Nigel Maund is a fellow of the Australian Institution of Mining and Metallurgy, the Australasian Institute of Geoscientists and the Society of Economic Geologists, as well as a member of the American Society of Mineralogists. He is also a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists.
