Silver City Minerals has moved onto deeper drilling at its Copper Blow project in Broken Hill in a bid to uncover more high-grade copper, gold and cobalt below recent discoveries.

Silver City (ASX:SCI) is undertaking a second round of drilling following encouraging initial results that provided the company with several “high quality” follow-up targets

Broken Hill is traditionally known for silver, lead and zinc – but investigations by Silver City show this western NSW mining district also contains an abundance of copper and gold.

Prior drilling indicates strong mineralisation over 600 metres, with further potential along strike, and grades of up to 6.1 per cent copper, 4.2 grams of gold and 0.29 per cent cobalt.

Silver City now plans to drill 850m over three holes, targeting extensions to the known high grade mineralisation over a down plunge distance of 200m.

The company will also undertake metallurgical testing on mineralised rock from recent drilling to determine the characteristics and recoverability of copper, gold and cobalt.

Silver City expects to begin its first follow-up program in December and, depending on the outcome, will move onto a second follow-up program.

The second phase will test deeper extensions of mineralisation at Copper Blow as well as two geophysical anomalies to the northeast of the project.

These are significant coincident magnetic and gravity highs beneath old mine workings.

Rock chip sampling by Silver City has returned grades of up to 0.3 per cent copper from the northernmost anomaly.

The details of phase two are yet to be finalised, but the company estimates it will undertake between 4000m and 6000m of drilling.
