Mere days after defining a maiden resource, Suvo has now received further test results expanding the footprint of high-value halloysite across the Trawalla project.

The company noted that every refined clay sample tested to date has contained halloysite, which is seeing increased use in the battery and nanotechnology sectors, with amounts ranging from 16% to a top of 45.4%.

Suvo Strategic Minerals (ASX:SUV) noted that the results grant it the opportunity to be Australia’s first halloysite-kaolin producer through its producing Pittong hydrous kaolin processing facility.

Test work and product commercialisation is now being planned with independent world class testing labs, technical partners and end-users, such as BGRIMM, LIXIL and Rezel.

“The team at Pittong continues to expand the footprint of our halloysite occurrence at Trawalla and as further holes are processed at the lab there, we expect this to continue to grow,” executive chairman Robert Martin said.

“Our international partners and experts are working with us to identify new market segments including opportunities in the battery and nanotechnology markets. We look forward to updating the market as further results come to hand.”

Trawalla resource and next steps

Last week, the company defined an indicated and inferred resource of 12.7 million tonnes of kaolinized granite for the Trawalla project, setting the stage for it to contribute to operations at the Pittong plant just 23km away.

This was based on data from 240 historical holes after drilling by Suvo confirmed they were suitable for use in resource estimation.

All approved work plans, land access and permits are already in place, allowing for mining to start quickly.

Test work is currently underway to determine the Trawalla halloysite clays’ geological and mineralogical aspects while the company plans to test and study the morphology, rheology and calcination properties of the halloysite mineral.

Meanwhile, research work with Chinese mineral process technology and mineral product development research institute BGRIMM will now focus on battery and supercapacitor applications as well as developing HNT-based modified and functionalised nanomaterials for carbon capture, hydrogen storage, water purification and coagulants.
