Special Report: Renascor Resources has completed the collection of a 730t bulk sample to ship to a commercial graphite facility in China, which will produce concentrate using the company’s optimised flowsheet.
The graphite comes from Renascor’s wholly-owned Sivour deposit in South Australia, with the sample a key step to establish a downstream graphite processing plant in the Aussie state.
RNU is hoping to produce the concentrate for a planned purified spherical graphite demonstration facility, making it the first Australian producer of a key component in the production of lithium-ion batteries, albeit at a pilot level.
Back in July, the company scored a $5 million grant from the Australian Government’s International Partnerships in Critical Minerals Program to design, construct, and operate the facility in question.
The company confirmed that the initial deliveries had arrived at the commercial graphite facility in China already, with the concentrate scheduled to commence production in Q4 this year.
Remaining on track, and it also confirmed that engineering for the PSG facility and commissioning of the plant are forecast for Q2 2025.
The graphite will be milled and purified into PSG using the company’s very own eco-friendly, HF-free purification process at its planned facility.
RNU Managing Director David Christensen said the completion of the bulk sample was essential to the development of the facility.
“The successful completion of this 730 tonne, bulk sample from Siviour is a key milestone for our Australian Government co-funded Purified Spherical Graphite demonstration facility,” he said.
“With the sample collection now safely completed, we will build upon the significant work already completed on our downstream processing designs as we look to demonstrate that our eco-friendly, HF-free purification technology can create a competitive advantage for Renascor as a low-cost, ex-China producer of Purified Spherical Graphite for the lithium-ion battery sector.”
