Special Report: With a busy exploration program on the cards, Navarre Minerals has appointed experienced geologist Harry Horvath to lead its regional exploration efforts.

Horvath has more than three decades of experience on Victorian and WA goldfields including Ballarat and on Stavely Minerals’ ground in western Victoria.

Navarre Minerals (ASX:NML) managing director Ian Holland says his appointment means the company now has several dedicated exploration teams with local knowledge and expertise in Victorian gold to expedite its exploration plans.

Exploration manager Shane Mele added that Horvath’s appointment will complement the August appointment of Victorian gold specialist Sarah Cochrane as senior exploration geologist.

Speaking exclusively to Stockhead, Mele said that while Cochrane will focus on the resource drilling program at the Resolution Lode within the flagship Irvine project, Horvath will look at its regional exploration targets both within the Stavely arc along with gold targets in Jubilee, Langi Logan and St Arnaud.

“He’s going to be busy on our upcoming aircore program which we have just commenced last week.”

The 12,000m regional aircore drilling campaign begins at Langi Logan and will continue at Jubilee and St Arnaud.

It adds to the 10,000m resource definition drilling program already underway at the advanced ‘Resolution Lode’ on the Irvine basalt dome, also part of the prospective Stawell Gold Corridor.

Horvath noted that Navarre had a wide variety of projects.

“Not only is there good scope to find orebodies at Navarre’s projects, there is also potential for volcanic-hosted base metal mineralisation,” he added.

Regional drilling

Langi Logan has similar geology to the Stawell Gold Mine’s 4moz Magdala gold deposit, 40km along strike to the north. It is also geologically similar to the advanced Irvine Project, where Navarre is drilling to establish a maiden resource at ‘Resolution Lode’ in early 2021.

Historically Langi Logan has produced about 133,000 ounces of placer gold from buried river gravels prior to World War One.  This has encouraged Navarre to prospect the area where early drilling has already delivered encouraging gold assay results up to 33.6 grams per tonne (g/t) of gold on the flanks of the Langi Logan basalt dome.

Following another phase of drilling at Langi Logan, the drill rig will move to Jubilee and then St Arnaud, aimed at uncovering new gold systems.

Gold resource work

Over at Resolution Lode, the ongoing 10,000m diamond drill program has already delivered high-grade gold hits that extend the known limits of the gold lode system by another 200m south-down-plunge and demonstrate the potential to define a significant resource.

The company is in the process of mobilising its second diamond rig at Resolution Lode and is exploring its options for a third rig.

Navarre remains on track to deliver a maiden resource for Resolution Lode in early 2021.

Navarre’s previous work has confirmed extensive shallow gold footprints at the Resolution and Adventure lodes along the flanks of the Irvine basalt dome.
