MinRex (ASX:MRR) has appointed mining veteran Pedro Kastellorizos as its chief executive to supercharge exploration at its projects in NSW and WA.

Kastellorizos has over 24 years’ experience in the exploration, mining and corporate sector with experience in commodities such as precious metals, base metal, uranium, molybdenum, tungsten and industrial minerals.

He was the founder of Genesis Resources (ASX:GES), served on the boards of companies such as Eclipse Metals (ASX:EPM), Batavia Mining (ASX:BTV) and Regency Miles, and as exploration manager for Tennant Creek Gold and Thor Mining.

During his working life, he has played major roles in project acquisitions, joint ventures, capital raisings and spearheaded numerous successful joint ventures.

Non-executive director George Karageorge says the appointment of someone of Kastellorizos’ calibre, character and experience was a major step forward for the company ahead of the start of its maiden drilling campaigns.

“I am enthusiastic to drive the company forward through the development of our highly prospective exploration projects and adding value to our shareholders through technical and financial expertise,” Kastellorizos noted.

“Our target programs to be developed will advance our profile as a leading mineral exploration company.”

Exploration plans

MinRex is planning to carry out exploration and drilling at the Sofala, Mt Pleasant and Sunny Corner projects in New South Wales’ Lachlan Fold Belt region as well as the Deflector Extended Project in Western Australia’s Murchison region.

First off the rank is reverse circulation drilling at the Wiles prospect at the Sofala project to follow up on sampling that returned exceptional results such as 9.26 grams per tonne (g/t) gold.

The company will then complete a review of aeromagnetic data over the Sofala and Mt Pleasant projects in May and June before reverse circulation drilling is carried out at the Queenslander mine at Sofala to confirm high-grade drill results.
