Mincor Resources’ (ASX:MCR) early drilling at its Cassini North prospect has intersected high-grade nickel and demonstrated the potential for the broader Cassini area in WA’s Kambalda region to be a new mining district in its own right.

Drilling in a new channel at the prospect about 700m north of the planned infrastructure at Cassini Main hit a 2.5m intercept grading 6.6 per cent nickel from a depth of 260m.

Additionally, the hole is the first to be drilled following an update to Mincor’s geological model for the area, while down-hole electromagnetic work indicates the presence of a conductor down-plunge from this hole.

“Given that the intersection is relatively shallow at 260m and is only 700m to the north of the designed Cassini Main infrastructure, we are excited by the potential for the broader Cassini area to emerge as a new mining district in its own right within the general Kambalda region,” managing director David Southam said.

He added that the early exploration results at Cassini North were very similar to what the company saw at Cassini Main and plans were now underway for a drilling program to improve Mincor’s understanding of the geology in this lightly drilled area.

Cassini Main has an ore reserve of 1.2 million tonnes grading 3.3 per cent nickel for 40,100 tonnes of contained nickel.

Project financing discussions for the development are progressing well ahead of a final investment decision.

Fraser Range exploration bearing nickel fruit

Meanwhile, Galileo Mining (ASX:GAL) has intersected significant sulphide mineralisation at its Lantern nickel prospect in Western Australia’s well known Fraser Range nickel belt.

Notable results include 23m of heavily disseminated, blebby and banded nickel-copper sulphides in ultramafic host rock from Lantern South and 18m of disseminated and blebby sulphide within an overall 108m zone of disseminated sulphide at Lantern East.

The company noted that it has not identified the source of the conductive anomaly adjacent to the second sulphide intersection, which suggests the potential for additional sulphide mineralisation.

Drilling of the third hole in the planned three-hole diamond drilling program is now underway.

More evidence of large nickel intrusive complex in the Goldfields

St George Mining’s (ASX:SGQ) drilling has intersected mineralised mafic-ultramafic units across an east-west strike of the Cathedrals Belt that extends for more than 4km at its Mt Alexander project in WA’s northeastern Goldfields.

Drilling intersected 25.4m of mafic-ultramafic from a depth of 300.6m at the Investigators prospect that includes a 15m thick intercept with disseminated and blebby nickel-copper sulphides and a 57.9m thick mafic-ultramafic at the Cathedrals prospect.

The company says the results support the potential for additional massive sulphide deposits to be present within the extensive Cathedrals Belt intrusive mineral system.
