Kin has intersected new zones of high-grade gold mineralisation east of historical surface workings at the underexplored Rangoon area within its Cardinia project near Leonora, WA, highlighting substantial new upside at the 1.275Moz project.

Notable results from the recent reverse circulation drilling include 1m grading 17.5 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from 119m (RN21RC117), 19m at 2.48g/t gold from 91m (RN21RC109) and 12m at 3.04g/t gold from 62m (RN21RC120).

These results follow on previous high-grade intersections that topped out at 3m at 21.1g/t gold from 98m, confirming an east-dipping orientation to the high-grade mineralisation in this area.

Kin Mining (ASX:KIN) says the drilling has also confirmed that the Eastern Corridor at the Cardinia project hosts an extensive mineralised environment with “multiple mineralised positions” over a strike distance of 4km.

“Exploration along the Eastern Corridor at Cardinia is continuing to kick some serious goals, with these exciting new assay results confirming the interpretation of high-grade east-dipping, sulphide-rich gold mineralisation around Rangoon,” managing director Andrew Munckton said.

“We believe that these east-dipping lodes link the previously separate deposits in the Eastern Corridor together as part of a coherent and much larger mineralised system which spans a significant area at the CGP.

“This is an exciting development which amounts to an important exploration breakthrough – coming after many months of hard work and some lateral thinking by our geology team.

“The Eastern Corridor has tantalised us for a while, yielding significant results over an extensive area. The bonanza intercepts we turned up last year at the northern end at the East Lynne discovery really ramped things up, however we were unable to replicate these at depth with follow-up RC drilling.

“These latest results, and the work we’ve been doing recently, suggests that we may in fact have been drilling the targets from the wrong direction.

“If the high-grade mineralisation along this Eastern Corridor is in fact predominantly east-dipping, you need to be drilling angled holes to the west to hit the zones.

“The holes we drilled at East Lynne were all angled to the east, so there’s a good chance we simply missed the target.

“Of course, this hypothesis still needs to be confirmed, but these exciting developments have certainly refocused our attention on this area.”

He added that the drilling had confirmed the company’s new geological interpretation and highlighted the potential to discover more high-grade lodes and to delineate new resources close to existing deposits.

Eastern corridor growth potential

Mineralisation at the Eastern Corridor has been intersected over an area of about 1km by 4km.

These include recent discoveries, exploration prospects and mining development opportunities such as Cardinia Hill, Helens, Fiona, Rangoon and East Lynne that are located between 500m and 4.5km from the centrally located Cardinia project.

Already, some 240,000oz of contained gold have been estimated across the Cardinia Hill, Helens, Fiona and Rangoon deposits.

Looking ahead, the discovery of shallow, east-dipping lodes of high-grade gold mineralisation with negligible surface expression highlights the potential of the Eastern Corridor to contain several styles and orientations of mineralisation.

Other areas still to be tested also show strong sub-surface mineralisation that require follow-up RC drilling to test for similar or deeper mineralisation that could potentially be associated with shallow, east-dipping orientations.
