Great Northern will be able to tap into serious exploration and development expertise with the appointment of veteran geologist Donald Garner as an advisor to its board.

Garner has over 25 years’ experience in the resources industry and was recently the managing director Red River Resources before moving to an executive director role with responsibility for strategy and business development.

During his time at Red River, the company transformed from a $1m ASX-listed shell company into a $150m market cap resource play with operating assets such as the Thalanga copper-lead-zinc mine in Queensland and the Hillgrove gold-antimony mine in New South Wales.

Prior to this, Garner held other senior executive roles in the resource sector and worked in corporate finance. This includes work as an exploration and mining geologist in Western Australia, Russia and Myanmar.

He also has significant contacts and relationships with metallurgy and processing opportunities in Australia and overseas.

Great Northern Minerals (ASX:GNM) managing director Cameron McLean said Garner’s appointment will support the company’s exploration and development pathway.

“His wealth of experience and demonstrated knowledge of the industry, particularly in North Queensland will greatly assist the company moving forward.”

Garner will be granted 3 million GNMOF listed options and 3 million GNMOB listed options for his services.

Camel Creek resource

The company recently defined a maiden resource of 202,000oz of gold and 9,000t of antimony for the Camel Creek deposit, increasing the broader resource at the Golden Ant project up by 111% to 386,000oz.

While this will underpin the scoping study for Golden Ant, there is potential for further growth as 65% of the resource is contained within the Hinge Zone that remains open at depth and along strike.

Great Northern already has fully funded drill programs approved for 2022 that are aimed at growing the resource base at Golden Ant.
