With lithium demand continuing to rise, Galan has rather merrily made a new pegmatite discovery at its Greenbushes South joint venture with Lithium Australia.

Geological mapping has uncovered a new pegmatite in three main outcrops spanning over an area of about 500m by 400m which appears to remain open along strike.

It follows on the June 2022 discovery of the first pegmatite lens at the project about 15km south of the producing Greenbushes lithium mine.

Galan Lithium (ASX:GLN) has also received assaying of soil samples over the initial pegmatite discovery which returned results of up to 215 parts per million lithium along with pathfinder elements such as arsenic and caesium.

Detailed mapping and geochemical sampling is ongoing while further soil sampling assays as well as rock chips taken from earlier mapped pegmatite outcrops are pending.

Managing director JP Vargas de la Vega said initial exploration outcomes at Greenbushes South have been excellent with airborne geophysical targeting having successfully led to the discovery of multiple new sizeable pegmatite outcrops that have similar macroscopic mineralogy to pegmatites described at the Greenbushes Lithium Mine to the north.

Pushing the lithium narrative

“Today’s results take us a step further. We now have confirmation of anomalous lithium concentration levels in the soil samples that were taken over the initial pegmatite discovery at the GS11 target zone,” he added.

“Geological mapping and geochemical sampling activities are ongoing. There are further soil and rock sample assays pending, including those to be submitted from our newest pegmatite discovery.

“We have also launched a pilot ground geophysics program to overlay our exploration targeting efforts at Greenbushes South.

“All of this work is driving us towards the key outcome of premium target locations for our initial drilling program.”

The new pegmatite find is likely to deliver more drill targets given that the first pegmatite find had generated 18 target zones.
