- DY6 starts 91-hole auger drilling program at Central Rutile project
- Program follows shallow auger drilling that returned up to 0.84% rutile
- Company aiming to delineate its maiden resource estimate in a highly sought exploration province
Special Report: DY6 Metals has a 91-hole auger drilling campaign underway at its flagship Central Rutile project in Cameroon, Africa.
This program will initially focus on the Bounde and Nganda licences where the company recently recorded up to 97.54% titanium (TiO₂) and high-grade intercepts of up to 0.84% rutile from shallow reconnaissance auger drilling.
The project consists of 21 exploration permits covering 8,782km2 across an area rapidly emerging as a globally significant rutile province within Central Cameroon.
Today’s cornerstone investment from one of the world’s largest titanium dioxide producers into DY6 neighbour Lion Rock Minerals has brightened a major spotlight on the region – with Rio’s investment in Malawian player Sovereign Metals further demonstrating that demand for these emerging large-scale African rutile operations is very real.
DY6 Metals (ASX:DY6) said fast-tracking the exploration timeline meant it would be able to reduce the lag between auger results from the recent 24-hole program at Alamba/Nsimbo, which are expected in five weeks, and auger results from Bounde and Nganda.
This approach accelerates future resource definition across high-confidence targets and will test for continuity of high-grade rutile mineralisation at depth, complementing the high-grade surface results.
Targeting maiden resource estimate
As the pace of exploration picks up, DY6 has strengthened its in-country team and secured a warehouse for a dedicated heavy mineral sands prep laboratory.
The company is now well-positioned to sustain continuous drilling throughout the remainder of 2025 and into 2026, accelerating the path towards a maiden resource at the Central Ri project.
“With BRGM’s mapping of an extensive high grade rutile zone, the discovery of coarse rutile nuggets grading up to 97.5% TiO₂, and consistent high-grade mineralisation from surface in reconnaissance drilling, we see every reason to move swiftly,” CEO Cliff Fitzhenry said.
“By commencing drilling now, rather than waiting for the balance of the soil sampling programme, we’re accelerating our exploration timeline and positioning ourselves to deliver a steady stream of auger results.
“This proactive approach ensures we maintain momentum and rapidly advance towards defining a large-scale, high-grade rutile resource.
“Our strengthened in-country team and the establishment of a dedicated heavy mineral sands laboratory mean we’re fully equipped to sustain drilling activity through the end of the year and into 2026.
“We believe this focused and fast-tracked program will unlock significant value for shareholders as we continue to build on the Central Rutile Project’s potential as a worldclass natural rutile opportunity.”
