Burley Minerals is set to accelerate drilling at its Quebec projects in Canada after appointing a new MD and CEO to the team.

Experienced mining executive, Stewart McCallion, has been appointed as Managing Director and CEO at Burley Minerals (ASX:BUR) after working across numerous commodities and varying stages of the mining cycle in both Australia and Canada for the last 25 years.

His previous experience includes positions at well-regarded companies such as Hancock Prospecting, Roy Hill Holdings, Vale Inco, Lycopodium and Ausgold.

Through this diversity of resource project experience, Stewart has honed his abilities to determine business objectives, critically evaluate opportunities and risks, and manage multi-disciplinary teams.

He will formally commence his role on August 1.

Retiring managing director, Wayne Richards, will remain as an executive of BUR during the transition period to ensure a smooth changeover.

Canadian lithium strategy

BUR chairman Bryan Dixon thanked Richards for his efforts in leading the company over the last 18 months and in aiding Burley Minerals to redirect its focus into Canadian and lithium exploration.

“I wish Wayne all the best in his future ventures,” Dixon says.

Bryan Dixon then talked to some of incoming MD and  CEO, Stewart McCallion’s, skills:

“We are very pleased to have attracted a mining professional with Stewart’s all-round experience to lead Burley Minerals’ Canadian lithium strategy.

“His Canadian background and familiarity with the terrain will be invaluable as we advance our drilling programs at both the Chubb and Bouvier projects in the strategic lithium province of Québec, Canada.”

Exciting platform for discovery

Incoming managing director Stewart McCallion says he is thrilled to lead the company after it re-focused its exploration on spodumene-pegmatites in the established Abitibi mineral province.

“Both the Chubb and Bouvier lithium projects provide a very exciting exploration platform for the discovery of lithium resources in Québec, located just 10 kilometres from Canada’s only operating lithium mine,” he explains.

“Having consulted to Burley previously, I look forward to contributing, along with the very experienced Burley team, to create significant shareholder value.”
