For decades, people across the globe have been complaining about a strange humming noise that does not seem to have any explainable cause.

Seismologists now believe that “The Hum” – as the phenomena is sometimes known – could be caused by the rumblings of magma-filled reservoirs deep under the earth that mark the birth of new volcanos.

While Stockhead is secretly a little disappointed that the explanation was not something more exotic like mass hysteria or secret military research, it could certainly ease the concerns that some folks have.

ASX SMALL CAP WINNERS

Adavale Resources (ASX:ADD) +113%

Shares in former uranium play/shell company Adavale skyrocketed after it submitted applications for ground neighbouring the government owned Kabanga project in Tanzania — one of the largest undeveloped nickel sulphide projects in the world.

Major miners Glencore and Barrick previously spent hundreds of millions on exploration and predevelopment at Kabanga, before mothballing the project due to low nickel prices.

In a show of considerable ambition, the company also said that it was assessing whether to tender for the big prize – Kabanga – itself.

Genetic Technologies (ASX:GTG) +45%

Genetic Technologies was a crowd favourite this week after it confirmed that its GeneType breast cancer test would be released in the US commercially by the end of March.

It is soft launching the product in 20 centres in eight US states first, with a full commercial launch by the end of June.

The company’s new test provides a polygenic risk score, a number which counts the cumulative effects of a number of genes.

ASX SMALL CAP LOSERS

Eon NRG (ASX:E2E) -33%

Shares in Eon NRG dropped after testing of its Govt Kaehne #9-29 well indicated that the primary target Dakota Formation had low permeability, which would limit production.

As a result, the company is focusing on completing the shallower, more attractive Muddy formation.
