The day ahead
The All Ordinaries index closed Thursday down 44 points at 7,003 led lower by the banking and mining sectors.
The broad index of Australian shares is still off from its mid-February peak of 7,190 points.
Australian government 10-year bonds were yielding 1.79 per cent Thursday, their highest for two years and acted as a drag on stock market performance.
Traders were talking about the US Federal Reserve’s hint-dropping that interest rates in the US will stay at their near zero level for another two years.
The US central bank is predicting that the US economy will grow by 6.5 per cent this year and by 3.3 per cent next.
