On Stockhead today, we give you a glimpse at the small caps breaking into South American cannabis, the RBA turns to Airwallex for advice and the most popular US stocks and ETFs among Australian investors.

But first:

The week ahead

This week marks not only a new month but a new season, and there’s a spring bonanza of key economic data for investors to consider.

Early on, the final GDP inputs will start filtering through from the ABS ahead of Wednesday’s headline release — the Q2 national accounts.

Annual GDP growth is expected to remain soft at just 1.4 per cent as the economy continues to slow. Quarter-on-quarter growth is forecast at 0.4 per cent, although the ANZ team thinks it will be just 0.2 per cent.

Ahead of all that on Tuesday afternoon, the RBA will take centre stage with its September policy announcement.

Some market commentators have questioned the timing of the rates meeting, given it falls one day before what may be a weak GDP print.

Westpac chief economist Bill Evans expects the RBA to hold rates this week, before cutting again in October

On Tuesday morning before the RBA there’s July retail sales data, and this morning CoreLogic will release monthly home price figures which are expected to show a strong increase in Sydney and Melbourne house prices.
