Happy new year Stockheads! It’s silly season, with a number of companies are moving because it’s the new year, it’s summer, or just because people are feeling the vibe.

Here are the key ASX small cap winners and losers at lunchtime on Wednesday 2 January:

The ASX Small Ords was up 6.5 points or 0.3 per cent to 2,464.4 at 12.40pm AEST.

GOING UP

IncentiaPay (ASX:INP) was one of the day’s biggest small cap movers, jumping 34 per cent to an intraday high of 7.9c despite no fresh news.

Shortly after Christmas the company told investors it had signed a deed with Commonwealth Bank to waive principal repayments, allowing it to “focus on production of its 2019/2020 Entertainment Book”.

Its shares are up 152 per cent since then.

Zelda Therapeutics (ASX:ZLD) was another, jumping 29 per cent to an intraday high of 6.7c despite no fresh news.

The company’s last update was its announcement it had teamed up with viagra mouth spray maker Suda Pharmaceuticals (ASX:SUD) to join the pot spray market.

Doriemus (ASX:DOR) ended 2018 on a high, announcing a deal with fellow small cap Rey Resources (ASX:REY) to obtain a 50 per cent interest over a Western Australian petroleum exploration permit block.

On Wednesday, Doriemus shares rose 23 per cent to 8c.

Shares in Prana Biotechnology (ASX:PBT) have risen 21 per cent since the company came out of a pre-Christmas trading halt to announce that it had secured up to $45 million in funding from a Boston-based biotech investor.

Life Biosciences is leading an initial $13.4m investment and a possible $31m via short-term warrants, a financial instrument similar to an option.

GOING DOWN

Sexual health drug developer Starpharma (ASX:SPL) scored in Japan with news that its antibacterial condom had passed final regulatory approvals, but that wasn’t enough to dissuade investors from selling the stock.

That’s because the powerful US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is asking for more info on Starpharma’s bacterial vaginosis gel before swiping right.

The stock immediately plunged on that news last week 37 per cent and continued the fall today, losing another 7 per cent by midday.
