We’ve almost reached the end of March, and what a long year month it’s been.

In most major economies, the health-crisis component of the COVID-19 pandemic is still escalating. And until that trend 1. slows 2. pauses and 3. reverses, it’s a good bet that everyone’s in lockdown until further notice.

With everyone confined to their house, social media provided an inside scoop on what the evil toilet paper hoarders have been up to:

And while the number of positive test cases are increasing, the number of optimistic assessments about the long-term impact on the global economy appear to be decreasing.

As a general rule, double-digit economic contractions aren’t positively correlated with strong company earnings and rising stock prices.

But amid the uncertainty, local markets have made a tentatively positive start to the week this morning.

Heading into midday trade, the ASX200 was up by around 1.4 per cent after tanking into the close on Friday to finish over 5 per cent lower.

The broader Small Ords index was a bit more cautious, treading water to be 0.14 per cent lower.

Cellmid (ASX: CDY)

The life sciences company had some COVID-19 news that made it through the ASX’s stricter testing measures, and the stock soared.

Cellmid announced it had signed a supply agreement for a rapid COVID-19 diagnostic kit that can get results in no more than 15 minutes.

The kit is made by a Chinese manufacturer which has approval with Australia’s health regulator, the Therapeutic Goods Administration. Shares in Cellmid ripped higher by almost 200 per cent in morning trade.
