Here are the key ASX small cap winners and losers at lunch Tuesday August 28:

The ASX Small Ords was up 7.3 points or 0.25 per cent to 2,904 at 12.40pm AEST.

GOING UP

Ausmex Mining (ASX:AMG) was the biggest small cap gainer on Tuesday. Its shares rocketed 135 per cent to an intraday high of 8c before settling back down to 6.5c by lunch —  still a 91 per cent gain.

The mining group trumeted “exceptional” drilling results, which indicated high grade copper, cobalt and gold at the Queensland site known they’ve nicknamed The Trump.

In February Ausmex gained 20 per cent on copper news from the same mine.

There were no results as yet from Mount Ridley Mines (ASX:MRD) but news Tuesday that the company had restarted drilling at its Mt Ridley gold project sent shares up 50 per cent to 0.3c.

The company announced in July that it had recommenced drilling, but told investors today the plan had been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.

A “recent site visit” had now cleared the site for drilling to start “early this week”.

Collaborate Corporation’s (ASX:CL8) car rental business, DriveMyCar, today announced that it had become affiliated with Airbnb. That sent Collaborate’s shares up 47 per cent to an intraday high of 2.5c.

Collaborate owns a number of marketplace websites, including Mobilise.com, which it launched in October last year as an Airbnb for heavy equipment.

That Airbnb connection become stronger today, as the DriveMyCar affiliation will offer incentives to its customers to list their properties on Airbnb.

Shares in Specialty Fashion (ASX:SFH) climbed to a one-year high of $1.10 after putting all of its resources into plus-size store City Chic.

That was a 10 per cent gain on the previous day’s close of 97c.

The retailer (ASX:SFH) today confirmed its sale of the Millers, Katies, Crossroads, Autograph and Rivers businesses to fellow listed rag trader Noni B (ASX:NBL).

The company is now left with City Chic, the plus size (size 14+) chain, that has embraced multi-channel retailing, with online now representing more than a third of sales.

GOING DOWN

Jakarta billionaire Bapak TK ‘coal king’ Low bought a 20 per cent stake in Gulf Manganese (ASX:GMC) — which pushed the stock down towards the 1.5c buying price.

Gulf shares were down to an intraday low of 1.9c, before rebounding to 2c at lunch.

Prior to today’s announcement of the $11 million deal, the company’s shares had doubled this month to 2.2c.
