It’s been a strange day on the ASX, with just 24 minutes of trading before a system issue took down trading for the rest of the day.

When the outage hit the Small Ordinaries index of 100 small-cap companies was up 1.1 per cent, or 31.3, points, to 2,975.5 – not quite as good as the ASX200, which had gained 1.2 per cent.

The microcap Emerging Companies index had gained 1.1 per cent, to 1,811.7.

Skin Elements (ASX:SKN) was the biggest gainer on the ASX before trading stopped, rising 55 per cent to 6.2c.

In a response to an ASX price query, the company noted its announcement on Wednesday that it had submitted an application for regulatory approval for its Invisi Shield product as a natural disinfectant product.

Alterity Therapeutics (ASX:ATH) rose 26.9 per cent to 3.3c after the Melbourne biotech company announced it had been granted a US patent for using more than 150 novel pharmaceutical compounds to treat Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological disorders.

Althea Group (ASX:AGH) was flat at 43.5c after announcing its Canadian subsidiary Peak Processing Solutions has entered into icence agreement with two Canada-based companies to produce topical products and beverages. The cannabis company expects to receive $C4.65 million ($487 million) in revenue from the contracts over the next 12 months.

CSL (ASX:CSL) gained 1.8 per cent to $315.04 after announcing that its Sequerius subsidiary would invest $800 million to construct a new biotech manufacturing facility in Melbourne to supply influenza vaccines to Australia and the rest of the world. The new facility will use the new cell-based technology, rather than the traditional process of growing vaccines in eggs.

Australian Primary Hemp (ASX:APH) was flat at 17c after announcing a deal with 7-Eleven Australia to stock its “Mt Elephant” hemp snack bars in stores across Australia. The company expects annual sales of between $1 million and $1.4 million.
