Closing Bell: ASX shrugs off some sharp falls in uranium stocks to close in the green

The ASX had a positive start to the week, even with a dip in red-hot uranium shares.

The ASX 200 finished 0.57% higher at 7,384 points while the ASX Emerging Companies Index finished 0.13% up at 2,555 points.

Energy and financials were the best sectors, gaining 1.81% and 1.52% respectively, with energy being boosted by the rise in oil prices over the weekend.

Sectors in the red included health and tech which retreated 1.03% and 0.70%.

Debuting today was cancer diagnostics company Pacific Edge (ASX:PEB), gaining 18%.

Resource Base (ASX:RBX) announced it was acquiring applications prospective for rare earths across the Murray Basin.

Lithium Energy (ASX:LEL) rose after telling shareholders its Burke Graphite Deposit is one of the highest-grade graphite deposits globally and that after test work it would re-engage with Chinese and Japanese parties who have previously expressed a strong interest in the graphite from the Burke Project.

Bass Oil (ASX:BAS) rose after an update to shareholders on its ambitions to pursue Carbon Capture, Use and Storage (CCUS) at its Cooper Basin portfolio.

Fellow penny stock New Talisman Gold (ASX:NTL) also rose announcing it was buying the Broken Hills Gold Mine – the one in New Zealand not far west New South Wales.

Bardoc Gold (ASX:BDC) fell after deferring the Final Investment Decision on its Bardoc Gold project and announcing a strategic review.

Employee well-being software provider Limeade (ASX:LME) fell after losing a contract from top-10 customer American Airlines.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS YOU MAY’VE MISSED

Synlait Milk (ASX:SM1) was the latest dairy company to reveal how tough FY1 had been, unveiling a $28.5 million loss. However the company said it expected a return to profitability in FY22 based on a return to normal trading conditions, improved infant base powder volumes and cost savings.

Qantas (ASX:QAN) announced that when international flying resumes it will re-divert its Perth-London flights – which prior to COVID-19 were the group’s most profitable – to either Darwin or Singapore due to border policies in WA. It also announced it was bringing forward the reopening data for travel between Sydney and Melbourne from 1 December to 5 November as well as intrastate travel in NSW to start from October 25.

Modular manufacturing business Fleetwood (ASX:FWD) secured a contract to help build a new 1,000 bed quarantine facility in Melbourne. The deal is expected to reap $32 million in revenue during FY22.

Commercial drone company Mobilicom (ASX:MOB) secured a $400,000 contract from Israel Aerospace Industries. Mobilicom will supply its datalink units and touch mobile ground space controller to help IAI control its new aerial vehicle tactical drone control system.

Factor Therapeutics (ASX:FTT) is set to re-enter the bourse with shareholders having signed off on the acquisition of PowerLime. The company will change its name to Dominion Minerals and will raise $4 million to seal the deal.

ADX Energy (ASX:ADX) executed hedging transactions with BP for fixed price swaps at a price of US$71.85 per barrel. The company also said increasing net revenues put it into a strong position to fund production enhancing well work at its Austrian fields.
