The ASX picked up from where it left off yesterday with another positive trading day.

The ASX 200 rose 0.31% to close at 7,388 points, which puts it up 1.26% in the past week and 2.1% in the month of December.

Most sectors except tech gained today, although no sector gained more than 0.63%, with the best one being industrials.

Scout Security (ASX:SCT) surged off the back of a capital raising that was conducted at a hefty premium to yesterday’s closing price.

Syrah Resources (ASX:SYR) climbed off the back of an offtake agreement with Tesla.

Ozgrowth (ASX:OZG) rose after a three-way merger between it, Westoz Investment company (ASX:WIC) and WAM Capital (ASX:WAM) was announced.

Strategic Elements (ASX:SOR) rose after an operational update on its subsidiary Stealth that provides autonomous technologies.

Xero (ASX:XRO) announced it was buying Canadian tax preparation software TaxCycle. The Calgary based company is used by almost 4,000 tax firms and over 16,000 individual accountants, bookkeepers and tax preparers.

Booktopia (ASX:BKG) told shareholders despite shipping record volumes, it was impacted by Sydney’s lockdowns and stock bottlenecks. Its earnings would be between $4 million and $4.5 million, down from $8 million last year.

Private health funds across Australia received approval for changes to private health insurance premiums. NIB (ASX:NHF) will hike its premiums by an average of 2.66% while Medibank Private (ASX:MPL) will hike theirs by 3.10%, although the latter won’t until September 1 next year instead of April 1 and claims this is the lowest average premium increase in 21 years.

Nova Minerals (ASX:NVA) increased its total gold resource estimate by 54.9% at its Estelle project in Alaska. It is tipping a total of 9.6 million ounces with 3 million indicated and the balance inferred.

Sunrice (ASX:SGLLV) announced it was buying equine feed manufacturer Pryde’s EasiFeed for $38 million. The company says this acquisition will be earnings per share accretive in the first full financial year of ownership.
