ASX Small Cap Lunch Wrap: Who’s ramping things up today?
News
The ASX looks on track to book its third straight day of gains, as global stocks remain buoyant amid the COVID-19 uncertainty.
The gains come as multiple US states continue to report record daily infection rates, with Texas clearing the 8,000 mark for the first time overnight.
Local hotspot Melbourne reported 77 new positive tests this morning, with more than 300 live cases which can’t be traced to a known source.
As various jurisdictions globally prepare for another round of lockdowns and stricter public safety measures, the ASX200 rose by more than 1 per cent into midday trade as it closes in on the 6,000 mark for the first time since June 19.
The Small Ords Index was also up by around 1 per cent in morning trade to 2,665 points. And there was more action in the hot end of the market, marked by a surge in dosarVi (ASX:DVL) shares following a sales announcement with QBE.
Shares in the company initially rocketed by more than 1,000 per cent — the third such ramp-up in three days after Etherstack (ASX:ESK) kicked things off on June 30, followed by Alterity Therapeutics (ASX:ATH) yesterday.
The ASX issued a speeding ticket to Alterity yesterday, to which the company responded it was not aware of any information that would prompt such a surge in volume.
Alterity then announced a proposed issue of securities after markets closed, and the stock fell back by around 60 per cent this morning. Etherstack, meanwhile, is trading at around $1.20 from earlier highs of $1.80 (up from 18c on Tuesday morning).

The QBE announcement saw dorsaVi lead the pack, after it signed a deal to provide its ViSafe motion sensor technology to employees of QBE customers.
dorsaVi said QBE had allocated $250,000 over an initial 12-month period to enable its customers to access the technology.
Also ripping higher was medtech company Osteopore (ASX:OSX), after announcing a distribution deal to market, promote and sell its patented 3D printed bioresorbable bone healing products into the US market through Biolate Inc.
And on the resources front, eMetals (ASX:EMT) was the standout after releasing the results of a geochemical sampling program at its Nardoo rare metals project in the Gascoyne Region of Western Australia.
The company said it revealed “highly anomalous” tungsten and neodymium finds, with drilling expected to commence in the September quarter.
