There are 27 amendments to the US Constitution, the most famous of which is probably the 5th.

By “pleading the Fifth”, accused defendants can choose not to answer questions which may incriminate them.

But in focus this week is the 25th, which allows Congress to remove a sitting president from active duties if they are deemed unfit.

House speaker Nancy Pelosi flagged plans to discuss the 25th Amendment with the media at her press conference tomorrow. Although with Congress not currently in session, any drastic moves are unlikely in the near term.

Back at the White House, President Trump posted a video declaring he was fighting fit and that moves were afoot to accelerate the rollout of COVID-19 treatments.

Amid all the posturing, markets are focused on two main things — whether Congress can agree on an additional stimulus plan, and whether there’ll be a decisive US election result on November 3.

For now, local markets are ending the week on a watchful note after a strong rally in the wake of some budget stimulus of our own on Tuesday night.

The ASX200 has dipped slightly into the red, with stronger performances in both the Small Ords Index and the Emerging Companies Index.

The top six positions (in percentage terms) were all filled by junior explorers, all of which rose by around 40 per cent on no news.

Conversion technology company Papyrus (ASX:PPY) rose strongly again following the release of its 2020 annual report this morning.

After trading below 3c for the better part of a decade, shares in PPY jumped to a high of 6.5c in recent days after the company received a $500,000 strategic investment from small cap fund manager L39 Capital.

Papyrus’ tech converts the trunk of banana palms into a range of products normally derived from wood such as paper and furniture.
