No longer must dieters cut out the carbonara, fend off fettuccini or pine over passed-over pappardelle.

Diet-noodle maker Holista CollTech (ASX:HCT) is backing carb-lovers again, this time with low-GI pasta.

The company is adding fettuccini and pappardelle to its product line-up of diet ramen, halal sheep collagen, and anti-ageing algae.

The company says the diet pasta, designed “as part of the global fight against diabetes and obesity”, will be sold first in the US and Canada by the end of March next year.

It cited data from Grand View Research suggesting the global pasta and noodle market could hit $81.7m by 2025.

“We started by creating the world’s lowest-GI noodle with a blend of okra, dhal (lentils), barley and fenugreek extracts,” said Nadja Piatka, CEO of the US subsidiary Holista Foods.

“Today, we are building on that success with an expanded product line-up that includes spaghetti, fettuccini and pappardelle.”

Holista CollTech has had a bumpy year in terms of receipts, with takings in the last four quarters ranging from $1.5m in the March quarter to $2.5m in the December quarter last year.

In September the company reported takings of $1.8m but a big leap in its cash burn to $1.5m, as corporate costs and product development spending soared.

The company had $917,000 left in the kitty and expected spending of $2.4m in the December quarter.

The share price was flat at 5.7c.
