Cinema chain AMC has debuted crypto payments for e-gift cards, including Dogecoin among its options. Meanwhile, US fashion outlet PacSun makes its crypto move.

Shiba Inu dog meme coins are pumping again right now and, like it or not, they seem like they’re here to stay. AMC’s Adam Aron knows it – at least about OG meme favourite Dogecoin.

The American cinema chain’s CEO has announced via Twitter that AMC customers can now buy digital gift cards with a handful of cryptocurrencies, including DOGE.

It’s the first part of the entertainment giant’s plan to integrate crypto payments by the end of the year, which will also include Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Ethereum (ETH), and Litecoin (LTC).

The new gift-card payment option has been enabled through the crypto-payment processor BitPay, and allows filmgoers to purchase e-cards with a value up to US$200.

Despite Bitcoin and the crypto market pulling back slightly at the time of writing, dog coins are still well up and among the best performers this week.

Dogecoin (DOGE), which could be considered “the Bitcoin of dog memes” is currently changing paws (woof) for US$0.26, up 10% in the past 24 hours.

Others crushing it in the niche canine sub-genre include: Kuma Inu (KUMA) +229%; Feisty Doge NFT (NFD) +60.7%; Shiba Inu (SHIB) +57.9%; The Doge NFT (DOG) +31%; and Dogelon Mars (ELON) +23%.

Floki Inu (FLOKI) is a bit of an outlier in this group, presently down 4.6%, although it, and other Floki-themed coins, enjoyed a pretty pump-tastic time of it mid-September after an Elon Musk tweet or two.

PacSun to support 11 cryptos, including DOGE

Continuing the BitPay/Dogecoin adoption theme, US fashion brand PacSun is also getting in on the act.

The “Gen Z”-focused outlet says it is the “first youth fashion retailer to accept crypto through BitPay“.

Starting this week, PacSun will support 11 cryptos through BitPay, including: Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Ethereum (ETH), Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC), Dogecoin (DOGE), Litecoin (LTC), and 5 USD-pegged stablecoins (GUSD, USDC, USDP, DAI, and BUSD).

Online shoppers can select a “Pay with BitPay” button during the PacSun checkout process, then choose which crypto they want to pay with, and the crypto wallet to send from. The transaction is then completed through a QR code scanning process.

“With digital sales doubling since last year, we understand the continued importance of creating an exceptional online shopping experience for our customers,” said PacSun President Brie Olson.

Both BitPay and PacSun have big social media followings and have plans to launch a marketing campaign that includes utilising TikTok and Instagram trend-setters for branded content, and a livestream event with a guest influencer and a PacSun executive.

According to Wikipedia, there are 400 PacSun retail outlets across the US and Puerto Rico, as of June last year.
