The Unicorns Podcast connects you to some of the best and brightest founders, CEOs, executives, business owners, VCs and inspiring leaders who make things happen and inspire others.

Hosted by media and PR veteran Justin Kelly, we chat to leaders on the front line on how to get started, what it takes to build a successful business, how to overcome challenges, and advice for those on a similar journey.

In this episode, Justin speaks with founder and CEO of Good Design Australia and president-emeritus of the World Design Organization, Dr Brandon Gien.

Dr Gien is also an adjunct professor of design at the University of Canberra and an adjunct professor of industrial design at the University of New South Wales (UNSW).

Dr Gien also completed a TED talk on ‘Why our world needs good design’ back in 2018 and is passionate about the effective use of design to drive economic, social, cultural, and environmental development.

Prior to founding Good Design Australia, Dr Gien was the executive director of design strategy at Standards Australia, recognised by the Australian government as the nation’s peak standards body.

In this episode, Dr Gien discusses why the pandemic represents an opportunity for the rebirth of Australia’s manufacturing industry and how a design-led approach to innovation is critical to emerging from the crisis successfully.

Dr Gien also discusses this year’s prestigious Good Design Awards, now in its 62nd year, and how to spot the next Tesla or Apple.
