While many people considered their dogs their “fur babies” prior to the pandemic, for those lucky enough to be in lockdown with a furry companion, it has meant a whole new level of entertainment as people unleash their dogs on the world of fashion to pass the time.

Some of these canine fashionistas even have their own Insta page.

And while we knew how important a person’s canine buddy could be to them prior to lockdown, the stats are showing a clear pick up in pooch pampering thanks to iso.

Since toilet paper and hand sanitiser panic buying has moderated, spend on things like pet care has increased.

Data provided by credit bureau illion and economists at AlphaBeta show an 8 per cent increase in spending on pet care from April 20-26.

According to illion, “stimulus came to the rescue recently”.

“The wave of stimulus money rippled through the data. Discretionary spending — which had fallen to 26 per cent below normal levels — jumped by 10 per cent,” the credit bureau noted.

illion said the shutdown hadn’t been a disaster for everyone, with things like alcohol, online gaming and pet care among the categories seeing a lot of growth as people spend more time at home.

Doggie fashion parade

Here at Stockhead, we thought it would be fun to host our own doggie fashion parade to give these modelling pooches some time in the spotlight.

It’s definitely not a Versace-level fashion extravaganza, but we thought these canine fashionistas earned their place on the runway.
