Copper and gold explorer Silver City Minerals is getting ready to immediately start a new drilling program at its Copper Blow site in Broken Hill after a new round of excellent results.

The next drilling phase of 4000 to 5000 metres is expected to lead to an initial resources estimation.

Silver City is pioneering the search for copper and gold in the historic western NSW town of Broken Hill.

The district hosts thousands of mineral showings – mostly lead, zinc and silver.

But investigations by Silver City (ASX:SCI) – which has been exploring the region since 2010 – show the region also contains an abundance of copper and gold.

A steady flow of positive drilling results has shown increasing copper and gold grades as the drilling progresses – and that has investors excited.

Silver City’s shares have been increasing steadily this year – they are up about 90 per cent to 5.2c since Christmas.

The latest results – released today – show Silver City has struck 41.2 metres at 1.3 per cent copper and 0.4 grams of gold per tonne from 183.8 metres in an area of the site known as North Zone.

High-grade results included 7 metres at 2 per cent copper (and 0.99 g/t gold) from 189 metres and 7 metres at 2 per cent copper (and 0.48 g/t gold) from 208 metres.

The explorer also struck a new cobalt intersection of 10.8 metres at 0.09% cobalt from 288.36 metres in one drill hole.

“The Copper Blow project is looking pretty interesting,” Silver City chief Chris Torrey told Stockhead.

“The excellent copper intersection in the North Zone suggests improving grades and thickness with depth. The copper zone is open in all directions and needs immediate follow-up drilling.”

The mineralisation in the North Zone of the site “suggests it may be amenable to extraction by open pit mining methods whereas the higher grade narrower zones in the South Zone may be amenable to underground mining techniques,” Silver City reported.

Silver City plans to “immediately commence drilling a Phase 2 program” targeting the zones between the two highest grade sections.
