ASX small cap winners December 10-14

Tech company Flamingo AI (ASX:FGO) was one of the week’s biggest winners, with its shares rising 67 per cent over the course of the week to 2c.

The company signed a deal for ‘self-organising library’ software called LIBBY with US insurer Nationwide Mutual.

Nationwide Mutual has been undertaking paid trials of Flamingo AI products since 2015 and said in October, after a trial, that it didn’t want to actually pay for the Cognitive Virtual Assistant product for its auto insurance line.

Miner Ramelius Resources (ASX:RMS) made an “improved, best and final” off-market takeover offer for sought-after gold junior Explaurum (ASX:EXU) on Thursday.

And investors approved, sending the Explaurum shares up 26 per cent this week to 11c per share.

The dramatic three-month wrestle for Explaurum looked to be over in late November, after mid-tier gold miner Ramelius bailed on its hostile takeover bid because it couldn’t beat an alternative offer made by Alkane Resources (ASX:ALK).

West StarIndustrial (ASX:WSI) shares rose 31 per cent this week to 1.7c after revealed its engineering business had won an $8m contract for Tianqi’s lithium plant in Western Australia.

As reported by Stockhead, it is the largest contract awarded to WestStar (ASX:WSI) subsidiary SIMPEC.

Shares spiked over 92 per cent to an intra-day high of 2.5c on Tuesday morning.

Shares in cyber crime fighter WhiteHawk (ASX:WHK) enjoyed a 30 per cent bump this week, rising to 7.4c on Friday.

The company inked a deal with an unnamed US “top 12” defence industrial base company with annual revenue of over $5 billion.

Northern Cobalt (ASX:N27) says its “Running Creek” prospect has become a priority target after an IP survey identified what could be a huge copper and cobalt deposit at depth.

Investors loved the news, sending the explorer up almost 38 per cent to 9c late on Friday.

Induced Polarisation (IP) is a geophysical method used to identify the electrical charge-ability of minerals below the earth’s surface, which helps explorers focus their drilling programs.

And foresting company Midway (ASX:MWY) shot up 7pc to an all-time high of $3.33 on news that China will pay on average 11 per cent more for Australian woodchips next year.

The company told investors this morning that recent contract negotiations had led to major Chinese customers agreeing to an average price increase of 11pc for Midway woodchip export volumes in the first half of the 2019 calendar year.

The increase will see Chinese customers paying on average $252 per bone dry tonne for Midway’s flagship eucalyptus globulus woodchips. Midway says this will have a “positive impact” on its bottom line.

ASX small cap losers December 10-14

Popular home loan broker Mortgage Choice (ASX:MOC) warned investors its 2019 profit would be up to 15 per cent lower than original forecasts due to a slowing property market.

Mortgage Choice, which has a market cap of $148 million, issued a statement yesterday adjusting its FY19 profit to between $14m and $15m, down from the $16.5m forecast when the company released its full-year 2018 results back in August.

And shares in the company fell half a per cent to $1.18 — the company’s lowest point in more than eight years.

Retractable syringe-maker Medigard (ASX:MGZ) had a week to forget, shedding 29 per cent to be trading at 2c on Friday.

The company said it had “limited cash on hand and a convertible note obligation” and that it will need to raise further capital in the near-term to fund the development of its injectable product to treat back problems.
